Obituary of Raymond Amundson

Mr. Raymond Amundson 1938-2010 Raymond Andrew Amundson was born on July 26, 1938, at home on the farm. Raymond went to Lake Four School where he managed to get through grade 7. The highlight of these school years was the track & field days in Big River. Later Raymond went on to drive truck for 8 years, hauling logs and gravel. In 1966, at the age of 28, he bought the Raymond Lemire farm and began mixed farming. During his early years, Raymond played on the Lake Four baseball team and in 1962, helped build the Park Valley Curling Rink where he spent many hours. At the age of 29, Raymond married his sweetheart, Tena Bergen, on April 20, 1968 in the old Elk's Hall in Big River. After their marriage, Raymond and Tena lived at the Lemire farm for 5 years, when the Park Valley Store closed in 1973, they moved across the road into the store house. Raymond and Tena lived there until October 1985 when fire destroyed their home. Their family, which then included 2 sons lived with family for a few months until they could rebuild on the same location. Their son Clifton was born on November 30, 1969 and Cory followed on January 6, 1975. Together they helped their dad on the farm and eventually took over the operations. There were 2 trademarks of the Amundson farm that were never to be missed or messed with, the Black Angus cattle and the John Deere machinery. One of Raymond's greatest pride and joys were of course his grandchildren, Tavis, Robyn and Ty. Tavis remembers many quad rides with grandpa and Robyn recalls playing pool together. Ty always thought it was pretty special his grandpa attended his hockey and ball games, and watched him swim. Another one of Raymond's favorite pass times was Crokinole, there were many games between family and neighbors that will be remembered by all. Raymond will be remembered as one of the most easy-going, happy-go-lucky people that a person would ever meet. He always had a smile on, and a good chuckle was never too far behind. Raymond is survived by his wife Tena Amundson; his sons Clifton (Lucille) Amundson and their children Tavis, Robyn, and Ty; Cory Amundson; his brothers Irvin (Elaine) Amundson; Harvey (Ruth) Amundson; Harold (Elinor) Amundson; his sisters Gladys (Aadne) Aarrestad; and Esther (Alwin) Millar, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Raymond was predeceased by his parents Omund & Inga Amundson; his step mother Esther (Martin) Amundson; and his brothers Lloyd & Melvin Amundson.
