Obituary of Stanley Baptist Lafond

Stanley Baptist Lafond, late of Saskatoon, SK passed away on December 25, 2023 at the age of 87 years.

Stanley was the 6th member of Auguste and Rose Lafond's family of 12 children. On Christmas evening he went to join his ancestors, his parents, his brothers,  Theodore, Albert, David, his sister Georgina, and his half-brother Alex Laliberte. 

He left behind the rest of his brothers and sisters, Augustine, Bertha, Roderick, Bridget, Olive, Harry, and Lionel to tell his story of a man who quietly served as a soldier and honoured the rosaries and teachings of his "maman".  There are numerous nephews and nieces from this family of 13. Some became very close to him while others respectfully acknowledged him as a "special uncle". He connected especially with his niece Cheryl Arcand and later her son, Mitchell who spent time ferrying him around Saskatoon for doctor appointments, shopping, and just-for-fun trips. He leaned heavily on his youngest brother, Lionel (under the supervision of the 4 sisters) to adjust his life as age and military scars began to take their toll on his body. 

He would never admit it, but he enjoyed phone calls, and visitors from his family and he had many in the last couple of years. His soldier brother, Roderick came recently and re-lived their adventures in Germany. 

In the early 1990's, Muskeg Lake Plumbing School hired him to secure the School. He gained respect from the community members on his professional knowledge of security work and his time to share a few stories with his buddy James Luke. 

His family and friends will lay him to rest between his other soldier brother, Albert, and his childhood brother, Theodore who died too soon. There will be a private Celebration of Life Service held for Stanley followed by a Graveside Remembrance at Muskeg Lake Cree Nation Cemetery.
