Estelle “Stella” Marie Petersen

February 20, 1930 - January 6, 2024

Estelle “Stella” Marie Peterson (nee: Emond) was born in St. Victor, SK on February 20, 1930, to Archie and Lillian Emond.  They had 6 children, Lawrence, Doreen, Stella, Helen, Della, and Clifford.  They moved to Cabana, SK by horse and wagon.  Stella lived in Cabana and went to school until she moved to Vancouver with her friend Louise and her sister.  They travelled by train to Vancouver and stayed with Louise’s grandmother.

Stella worked at a cookie dough plant in Vancouver until returning home to Meadow Lake where she worked at the Hub, a local restaurant.  Her mother was writing letters to Stella wanting her to return to Saskatchewan, that is why she returned.

Stella married Roy Nydegger in 1952 and moved to Makawa, SK where she raised 6 kids, Shirley, Carl, Ken, Don, Jim, and Cindy.  In 1981 she married Del Peterson and moved to Meadow Lake where she worked at the Empire Hotel as the office manager.  She was 78 years old when she retired from the Empire.

Stella was full of fun and energy, she was very social, loved people, loved music and dancing.  We went to a lot of dances and music festivals over the years.  She also loved to sing and play the guitar.  Stella had a stroke and needed to be moved to the nursing home in Big River, SK where she passed away January 6, 2024.

She was the best mom that anyone could ever wish for, and she always put her kids first.  She will always be dear to our hearts forever.
