Daniel Schira

Obituary of Daniel John Schira

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel (“Dan”) John Schira on April 6, 2024, in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 76 years. Dan was the oldest child of John and Mary Schira.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Brian (Kari), Chris, Marty, and Roxanne (Claude) Martine; grandchildren: Dalton, Kirsten, Denver, Elizabeth, Brielle, and Chanaya, and his siblings: Sylvia, Emilie, Dennis, Charles (Claire), Rosalie (Ed), Ron (Carol), and Giselle (Don), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and an abundance of friends.

He was predeceased by his father in 1988 and his mother in 2021.

Dan was born and raised on the family farm a few miles south of Spiritwood. He was always looking out for the well-being of his younger siblings and was a wonderful big brother.

In 1969, he married Jean Bruneau and together they had four children. He was a loving father and did his best to teach and guide his children, with the goal to provide them with the best life possible.

Dan worked various jobs throughout his life, but mainly farmed and played music; farming and country music were in his blood. He was a committed musician and singer who led some of the best country bands wherever he lived.

In his downtime, he enjoyed flying his 4-seater taildragger airplane, fishing, hunting, and socializing. Family and friends meant the world to him, and he loved gatherings.

In the late 90s he started ‘Danny Boy Music Services’ in Prince Albert. It was a successful business for many years, providing the area with live music, DJ and karaoke services. After leaving the farm, his band and the business kept him busy. He often volunteered for charities or played for care homes to entertain the elderly. He was a professional driver who spent many years driving taxi and semi; he had a compassionate heart and cared deeply for people, as shown by his last job which was driving bus for disabled persons.

He was a man of many talents, developed by life experiences and sheer determination. He accomplished a lot in life and those that were able to join him along his journey were blessed with his music, his kindness, and his humour.

We would like to thank the following for supporting Dan and his family over the past few years: Prince Albert Home Care; Saskatoon Home Care; St. Ann’s Home staff; Porteous Lodge staff; Royal University, City and St. Paul’s Hospitals and staff; all other healthcare professionals and volunteers, and Dan’s caring friends.
