Karen Koivisto

Obituary of Karen Ida Koivisto

Karen Ida Koivisto was born May 15th, 1965, and left this world April 19th, 2024, at the age of 58 years.

Karen was born with Down Syndrome, but she was so much more than that. She was a warm-hearted, giant-hug-giving beautiful soul. Karen loved pizza, Chinese food, and all things dessert. She loved dancing and bowling and was in many bowling tournaments for which she won several awards. Karen loved her iPad, where she enjoyed her music and playing her games. She was a big Roughriders fan. She wore the green proudly!

Karen worked at Kin Enterprises in the Starlight Cafe where she prepared Meals on Wheels, also working in other areas right up to being in the Seniors program in later years. She won the Employee of the Month Award in 2014.  Karen loved a good party and being with family and friends.
Karen’s second family were Cathy and George Hoffman and their children. Karen called Cathy ‘Mom’. We are so grateful for the loving home Cathy gave to our Karen for thirty-six years.  Karen had a special relationship with Lynda and Don Monahan and their son Shawn and daughter in law Jill and their children who loved her like their own.

Karen is predeceased by her parents Germaine and Veikko Koivisto.

She is survived by her brother Victor (Kathleen) Koivisto and their children Taylor and his children Derek, Jayde, Myles; Tara and her children Kaylab, Savannah, Devin; brother Glenn (Cathy) Koivisto and their children Kayla (Graeme), Justin (Daratu) and their son Zayd; Dylan, Alyssa; brother Darryl (Patti) Koivisto
and numerous friends and relatives.
