I was lucky enough to have Mr. Ackland as my art teacher in junior high over twenty years ago now. He made such an impression on me that I often reminisce about him and his class with friends who also attended PACI. He was passionate about art and the sort of teacher who could be blunt and honest with students in a way that made you like and respect him more. He is one of the few teachers I had who, when I was having difficulties with school, recognized and valued effort and originality, even if you were technically rough.
He taught me the importance of working with mistakes you made and still being able to end up with something worthwhile.
I hope he knew how much his students delighted in him.

I had the great opportunity to work with John for many years. He was always dedicated to his work and his students. His quick wit and interesting stories were always welcome in the school. He will be missed deeply by all.

I had Mr. Ackland at PACI for an art teacher and a home room teacher for one of the year. I always enjoyed him as a teacher as he wasn't like the rest of them. He always called me a lummocks in his class and that always stuck with me as I was a large goofy person and to this day still am. That word will forever be in my vocabulary due to him and I still use it from time to time. I always wondered what happened to Mr. Ackland and had heard rumors that he frequented the Golf and Curling Club, but I never seen him there the random times I would go throughout the years. I'll always cherish those days in his class teaching me the little art I know how to do today. Rest easy Mr. Ackland.

I worked with John at Riverside School in the 1980’s. He had a wicked wit and sense of humour. In the six years i worked with him he only missed one day of work! He designed the first Riverside Rams school logo. A man of many talents. Vale John.

I had him as an art teacher and he taught so much more than art to everyone. A hilarious form of wit and patience of a saint. He will truly be missed.
