Obituary of John "Jim" Phillip
Phillip - Mr. John "Jim" Phillip, age 73 late of Shellbrook, passed away in the Shellbrook Hospital on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. John was born in the Kilwinning area on February 19, 1937 to Jackson and Dorothy (nee: Hustwick) Phillip. John was the youngest of three children who were raised on a farm in the Kilwinning district. He received his education at the Spruce Glen School, Kilwinning area. He began farming with his father at the age of fifteen. Later he farmed in his own purchasing land and cattle. He had a great love for his cattle. On January 26, 1963 he married Shirley Petterson from Prince Albert. They had two sons, Daryl and Geoffrey. In 1995 they moved from the farm and purchased their home in Shellbrook. John did custom cattle hauling for a few years. Then for approx. seven years he hauled mail for Canada Post. In 2006 he decided to retire. John enjoyed most sports but had a "great" passion for hockey. He loved to go to coffee row and talk to his friends about sports, especially hockey. John was a quiet, hard working man. He was very caring of his family and others. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and all family occasions. He especially enjoyed earlier years when his sons played hockey. Visits with family and friends meant a lot to John. John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Shirley; his son, Daryl Phillip (Sheila Rask) and his children Chelsea, Rachelle and Shane; his sisters, Betsy Bruner, Alice Rogerson; his sisters in-law Phyllis Petterson , Louise (Dennis) Coates; his brother-in-law Gerald (Derry-Ann) Petterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his son, Geoffrey Phillip; his parents, Jackson and Dorothy Phillip; his in-laws George and Elizabeth Petterson; two brothers in-law Arnold Bruner and Lloyd Rogerson. There was a Private Graveside Funeral Service held at the Shellbrook Cemetery on Tuesday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rob Stringer as officiant.
