Obituary of Donald Irvin Deck

Donald “Don” Deck, late of Prince Albert, SK, beloved husband of Dolores, passed away on May 14, 2024, while surrounded with family.  A special thanks to Dr. G Surkan for all his help and constant support during his battle with Cancer.  A special thanks to the Palliative Care team and all the staff at the Victoria Hospital.

Don married Dolores Bast on October 2, 1965.  Together they raised 4 sons, Darren, Darcy, Dean, and Devin.  The family grew with the son’s marriages, bringing the daughters he never had into the family with Melanie, Audrey, Diane, and Terilyne.  Don has 9 grand kids, Chelsey & Kaylee (parents Darren &Melanie), Zachary & Tanner (parents Darcy & Audrey), Daegan, Darius, & Darianna (parents Dean & Diane), Josh & Morgan (parents Devin & Terilyne).  Don’s favorite thing was spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, watching sports activities, playing cards, & sitting by the fire.  A special family event was the annual bunnock tournament involving the whole family.

Don grew up on his family farm in Reward, SK.  At the age of 18, he left the farm due to health reason.  He started working in 1962 with Dairy Producers as a Butter Maker, Unity, SK.  Don worked as a Milkman in Unity & Wilkie.  In 1976 the Dairy in Unity closed, and the family moved to Prince Albert.  Don worked as a city Route Salesman for 22 years.  He was also very involved with the UFCW union, as both a local representative and an Executive Member.  Don was very proud of his career with Dairy Producers and the UFCW.  Don finished his career with 3D Distributers as a Delivery Driver fully retiring in 2011.

Don was an active volunteer in Prince Albert.  He kept busy coaching the boys (hockey, baseball, & soccer).  Don was active in the church as a Knights of Columbus member & helping with funeral lunches.  Don was an active volunteer at Mont St Joseph.  He helped with mass preparations, transporting Seniors, and assisting with Father.  He also spent time volunteering with Catholic Family Services, Marriage Encounter, and Marriage Preparation.

Don enjoyed spending time with friends.  A special group (board members) spent lots of time together at breakfast meetings and coffee sessions.  He enjoyed spending time at the lake.  His special place was the Ambrose Trailer Park at Emma Lake spending time fishing and golfing.  It was at the lake where a lot of family time was spent with kids and grandchildren visiting.  Don was a long time Prince Albert Raiders Season ticket holder for 30 years.  He enjoyed going to the games.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Joan Deck; sister, Marj Laplante; niece, Lisa Beecroft; parents-in-law, Zacchaus and Anastasia Bast; and siblings-in-law, Leo, Peter, Marty, Mary, and Shirley Bast.
