As a child William enjoyed activities such as shooting gophers with a sling shot, playing ball, fishing on the shore of Birch Lake and snaring fish in the creeks that ran into Birch Lake in the spring. He had many great memories of haying in the meadows north of Birch Lake in the summer and logging in the winter. In 1942 William was called into the army. He managed to save enough money from his army pay cheque and when he returned home he was able to buy his first quarter of land. Farming and playing ball were two of his passions and in his later years he enjoyed dancing and old time music. He also enjoyed cutting fire wood and hauling it with horses and always looked forward to visits with his brothers Dave and Allen. Having kids around and watching his grand kids in their activities such as hockey and ball was a joy for William as he got older. His grand kids will remember him by always having cookies when they came to visit, the horse drawn sleigh rides, wild golf cart rides, him sleeping in the chair when he was suppose to make sure they got on the school bus and the St. Patrick day baloney sandwiches. William lived on his farm taking care of himself right up to when he had his stroke in August 2009. Although the people caring for him in his last 10 months were very good, living that way, being told when to eat, when to sleep, when to dress and undress, just wasn't him. He never liked being told what to do. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Beau "Lac" Funeral Home of Spiritwood has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
