Obituary of Anne Mackonka

 Anne Mackonka (nee Stecy), late of Edmonton, AB, passed away at the age of 102, on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Capital Care Lynwood in Edmonton, AB.  Anne was born on  Dec. 25, 1921 in Honeymoon, SK and married John Mackonka in 1944.  In 1945, they moved to Meath Park and opened Meath Park Oils & Implements (the B.A. service station and bulk delivery) and John Deere dealership.  Anne managed the parts, inventory, and accounting services for the business.  She was involved in the community rink and hall and was on the town council as the secretary/treasurer.  Anne liked to keep herself busy with her favorite hobbies.  She was an avid gardener, maintaining a large vegetable garden, flowerbeds, and several varieties of apple trees.  She was very proud of being able to grow a concord grapevine in her garden.  Anne also enjoyed cooking, picking berries and mushrooms, canning, curling, playing cards with friends, playing horseshoes, crafting, and doing jigsaw puzzles.  She was an experienced sewing instructor and seamstress.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, darning, quilting, cross-stitching, doing macrame and needlepoint.  Over the years, she made many Ukrainian dance costumes, afghans, quilts and clothing for her children and grandchildren.

 

John and Anne retired from Meath Park Oils & Implements in 1980 and relocated to Prince Albert in 1982.  In 2010, Anne moved to Edmonton, AB to be closer to her family.  She resided at Terra Losa Lifestyle Options and Capital Care Lynnwood.  The family wish to thank the staff at these facilities for their kind and exceptional care provided during these years.  Anne celebrated her 100th birthday on Dec 25, 2021, receiving recognition for this significant milestone from Queen Elizabeth ll.  Her certificate of congratulations from the late Queen has been proudly displayed these past few years.

 

Anne is survived by her daughters Patricia (Bill), Judy (Jerry), Dolores (Bob), Cindy (Tim); son Jack (Sharon); son-in-law Ghislain; grandchildren Anastasia, Cinnamin (Simon), Honey (Tyler), Misty (Sean), Tammy (Chad), Corey, Heather, Jonathan (Zuzana), Melissa (Eric), Justin, Keven (Lori), Taylor (Jennifer), Lindsay (Jon); great-grandchildren Frost, Rowan, Katelyn, Hunter, Cruise, Caprise, Lucas, Owen, Osa, Tianna, Keenan, Adalyn, Wyatt, Victoria, Maverick, Holden, Finn, and sister Sylvia.

 

Anne was predeceased by her husband, John and daughter Gladys.

 

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
