Obituary of Roy Wasden
Wasden- Kenneth Roy was freed from his pain on July 5/2010 at the age of 79 years. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Auralia Wasden of Spiritwood, Sask. , his children: Laura (Don) Friesen of Dundurn, Sask., Gord (Karen) Wasden of West Kelowna, B.C., Ken (Bonnie) Wasden of Spiritwood, Sask., their grand-children , great-grand-children, numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Mary Ella Wasden, his brothers: Albert (Irene), Wilfred (Daisy), Private Douglas Wasden and a grandson, Corporal Dustin Wasden. Roy was born on May 31/1931 in Mildred, Sask. and on October 30, 1956 married Auralia Kathrene Hujber. They raised their children and farmed on the homestead south of Mildred. Roy loved raising his Hereford cattle and was a 4-H member and leader for many years. He was very involved in various community endeavors. He was very sports oriented, pitching soft ball for the Mirror Lake Beavers and playing hockey on the outdoor rink in Mildred. He also played hockey in Spiritwood where he and Louis Willick would play many full games as the only defense men. He instilled a love of sports to his children, which is still a big part of all their lives. Roy and Auralia retired from farming and moved into Spiritwood in 1991. He worked for the Spiritwood Housing Authority and the Spiritwood Detachment of the RCMP. On retirement his interests turned to collecting old furniture or anything else that he thought could be restored for his own use as well as many others in the community. He went to many Auction and garage sales looking for treasures he could use. Family and friend were a very important part of Roy's life. He loved family gatherings and was happiest when everyone was together. Roy also enjoyed when friends came to visit, to share some stories and to discuss the world's problems. Even in his final days, as he battled cancer, he would find the time and energy to entertain those who stopped by. His funeral was held on July 9 at the Spiritwood Sacred Heart Parish with Interment in the Mildred North Cemetery. Donations in memory of Roy may be made to the Spiritwood Museum Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
