Mary Billay

Obituary of Mary Billay

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our devoted Mother, Baba, Aunt, and friend, Mrs.

Mary Billay at the age of 89.

Mary was born on February 12th, 1935. Mary spent her early years and schooling in Brantford and Waterford, Ontario before life took Mary and her family to Foxford, Saskatchewan.

Shortly after her move to Foxford, while employed at the store in Meath Park, Mary met a persistent customer who became the love of her life, James (Jim) Billay. They were married on June 22nd, 1952, and together raised four sons on the family farm. Mom kept busy by preparing and delivering field meals, gardening, preserving, canning, baking and not to mention looking after every need of the family. Work on the farm though would seldom get in the way of celebrating birthdays and anniversaries with so many of their friends and neighbors. Mary became an active member of the local Ukrainian Catholic Church and Seniors Club in Meath Park for many years.

Soon after James' passing, Mary moved to Prince Albert in 2000 and made a new life for herself for the following 24 years in her new condominium setting. During these golden years, she enjoyed being a member of Veselka, and joined the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mary's abundant supply of homemade perogies, cabbage rolls and baking were proudly served to her many visitors. Condominium living involved regular get together with neighbors for card nights. Thanks to these wonderful neighbors, Mary always said how much she enjoyed her time at the condo. Her devotion to her children and grandchildren was unquestionably her best trait.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children Boris (Donna), Dennis (Micheline), Eddy; her daughter-in-law Lisa; her grandchildren Ryan (Kristie) and his daughters Kaila, Aliya; Jason, Jonathon (Brittany) their daughter Lainey; Graeme, Evan (Kailey), Laura Sorokan (Keenan), Devon, Laci, Leshia, Katana-Mary; sister-in-law Lillian

Mary is predeceased by her husband of 46 years James; her son Gordon; her grandson James; her parents John and Malania Chetyrbok; her brother Joe (Lois) Chatterbok

The Billay family would like to extend their gratitude to the care providers at the Victoria Hospital. Mary often expressed how wonderful her nurses were, and often commented on how beautiful their uniforms were, and she wanted to look just like them.  Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday,  July 10, 2024, at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, 751 14th St. W, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, Hwy #2 South.
