Obituary of Bruce Dearing
Allan “Bruce” Dearing passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert, on July 10, 2024, at the age of 71. He was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a friend to many.
Dad lived a full life filled with love, laughter, and kindness. He was known for his warm gentle smile, his jovial laugh, and his ability to talk about anything to anyone who would listen. The only thing Bruce loved more than his Blue Jays, Roughriders, rink burgers or driving his 948 John Deere Skidder were his girls and grandkids. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather.
Bruce was born on October 19, 1952, in Prince Albert. He was the first son born to Ted and Toots Dearing. He grew up on the family farm north of Weirdale. On August 9, 1974, Bruce married Sherry Will and they would be celebrating 50 years of marriage this coming August. In 1976, they welcomed their first daughter Melanie and moved onto their current yard site north of Weirdale, next to Sherry’s parents. Four years later in 1980, their second daughter Jamie was born. The next years were spent at the ball diamonds, hockey rinks, and summers camping with family. It was a busy time for the Dearing’s. Dad worked away in the bush but still found the time to play and coach ball in Weirdale and hockey in Meath Park. The family put the miles on their family car, “The Metallic Blue Firebird.” This was a time when Bruce and Sherry made many lifelong friends. For twelve years they considered their family complete until they were welcomed with a wonderful surprise! Their youngest daughter Brittney was born in 1992. Over the next few years as Brittney grew up they continued to follow their girls in all of their activities. As time went on the girls graduated, married, and started families of their own. The next phase of their life was chasing the grandkids and cheering them on at all of their activities whether it was a ball tournament, hockey game, Ukrainian dance recital, a gymnastics competition, or volleyball match. Grandpa could be found in the stands cheering them on. He was truly their biggest fan!
Dad worked in the logging industry and road construction for over 55 years. He worked for Woodland Enterprises, Quin-Tec Enterprises, Cyr Contracting and most recently G-6 Enterprises. He was a skilled operator and a hard worker. Camp 6 was his home away from home. In early 2024, Bruce was forced to retire as his health declined. Dad spent his remaining days in his home in Weirdale until hospice care was needed. The kindness and care Dad and our entire family received as guests at the Rose Garden Hospice was exceptional. The staff were so compassionate and we thank them for making a difficult time so much easier. In lieu of other tributes, we request that donations in Dad’s name be made to the Rose Garden Hospice, 500 38th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6W 0A3.
