Obituary of Pearl Annie Evans
Pearl passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Sunday, August 4th at Shellbrook Nursing Home at the age of 92 years. Pearl was the third of four children born to Louis and Lydia Peterson in Canwood, SK on September 30th, 1931. Her younger years were spent on the family homestead milking cows, feeding chickens, picking berries and gathering wood for fuel. Pearl took her public-school education at Dry Creek school. Grades 9 and 10 were completed by correspondence and Grades 11 and 12 were completed in Canwood where she boarded at Amos and Ida Nordstrom’s house during the winter months. After graduation she took her nurse’s training at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert and returned to Shellbrook to start her nursing career. Shortly thereafter she met a young mechanic named Garnie Evans and on August 5th, 1953, she married the love of her life. Pearl enjoyed gardening, music and spending time with family at Waskesiu. Pearl was known for her musical talent and played clarinet for many years as a member of the Shellbrook Legion Band and sang in the church choir, at the nursing home and for various social functions whenever the opportunity arose. However, Pearl’s true calling was her gift of compassion and caring for others. Pearl was a kind hearted and devoted individual which allowed her success and fulfillment during her nursing career. She spent over 35 years selflessly caring for others and after her retirement in 1988, she continued to provide palliative care and companionship for those in need. Pearl will be remembered by her family and loved ones as having a kind heart and always taking care of those around her.
She will be missed by her family and her community. Pearl leaves to mourn her son Glen (Carol) Evans of Shellbrook, grandchildren Randi (Mike), Rachelle (Greg), Tyler (Jolene); son Garth (Cheryl) Evans of Saskatoon, grandchildren Alisha and Melisa; daughter Gayle (Randy) Leck of Kelowna, grandchildren Taylor (Katie) and Brittney (Josh), brother, Raymond Peterson, sister-in-law, Evelyn Peterson, cousin, Doris Britski, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at Parkland Integrated Health Unit on Friday, August 9th, 2024, at 10 am. Memorial donations may be made to Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Foundation. Interment will be in the Veteran’s Section, Shellbrook Cemetery.
