Obituary for George Fredrick Jensen
George Fredrick "Fred" Jensen was born October 19,1936 in Barrhead, Alberta, the youngest son of Jens Peter and Ida Marie Jensen. He died Friday, May 14, 2021in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan with his wife June, nearby.
Fred grew up and attended school in Barrhead, Alberta, then moved to Edmonton where he started his working life as an Edmonton City Policeman. After meeting and marrying June Bird in 1963, he changed occupations for a more stable form of life. Fred now entered into the financial field. This new career led to a life in several cities and towns in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Fred and June eventually settled in Calgary, where they resided for many years until two months ago when they moved to Prince Albert.
Fred cultivated friendships with people easily, young or old, and was always very hospitable. Fred appreciated music and played for his own amusement at home. Someone encouraged him to try wood carving and he soon carved many local birds and animals that we can still look at today and think about the expert carver. Fred eagerly entered into games that challenged him mentally and also enthusiastically watched action games, hockey games and baseball games on TV.
Fred had many medical issues in his later life, yet complained very little so others never realized the severity of his illnesses. Fred was very thankful for the support of family and friends in his last months, Barry Brassard and George and Denise Wensveen.
Fred will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife, June; his nephews, Bruce Jensen (Lori) and Thomas Jensen and his niece, Judy Cattoi. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Beverly Bird (Lynne); sisters-in-law, Dolores Riffel and Karen VanSlyke (Gerry); his nieces, Vaughanne Frandsen (Cyrel), Tammy Zurowski (Garry Hagen), Tricia Timmann (Clint), Trina Bird; and nephew, Todd Riffel (Roxanne).
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Jens Peter and Ida Marie Jensen; June's parents, Clifford and Susan Bird; his siblings, Eileen, Harold and Edward Jensen; his niece, Ruth Legasse; and his brother-in-law, Harold Riffel.
