Jeffrey Billay

Obituary of Jeffrey Jules Billay

It is with great sadness that the family of Jeffrey Jules Billay announces his sudden peaceful passing on August 5, 2024.  Jeff was born on August 10, 1958.  He grew up on a farm near Meath Park where he learned the values of family and hard work.  These traits were instilled in him at an early age and propelled him to become a very successful businessman in the hospitality and gaming industries in Saskatchewan and southern United States.

He was curious, ambitious, adventurous and not afraid to explore new ideas and implement them. He did everything from earning a commercial, as well as private, pilot’s license to becoming a commercial real estate agent then programming electronic games.  Jeff loved people, bright lights, action and warm weather.  Through his various businesses, he did a tremendous amount of charity work and would always give to those in need.  He was a gentle, quiet-mannered person who travelled the world extensively - always taking time to visit and take a genuine interest in the local people.  Jeff passed away doing what he loved, owning and operating a friendly neighborhood pub in Phoenix.

The most important part of Jeff’s life was his family.  He would always call, no matter where he was, and would show up unexpectedly for a short visit.  He never missed a birthday or anniversary and always came home for the holidays.  Jeff would always call the farm “home” (even though he would say, “Nothing ever happens here”). He recently enjoyed a horse and wagon ride around the farm on the country roads with all the family onboard.

Jeffrey is survived by his mother, Mary, brother Wayne (Maria), nephew Tyler (Shelley), niece Emily (Chris) and great nephews Julian and Luke whom he adored.

He was predeceased by his father, Julius. Also predeceased by his great-niece and nephew Olivia and Sullivan.  Jeff’s memory will live on through his family and all the lives he touched.

A celebration of life was held for his friends in Phoenix on August 12th and a private family graveside service was held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Janow Corners.

In lieu of other tributes donations in memory of Jeffrey may be directed to the less fortunate.
