Obituary of Vernon Alvin Linzmeyer
Vernon was born on December 14, 1933, in Balgonie, SK to Fred and Martha Linzmeyer, the oldest of their three children. When Vern finished school, he went to work for Bowmen Brothers in Regina, an appliance and parts store. It was there where he met Shirley Pickup, who he married on June 8, 1957
Together the couple had four children, Mark, Sheryl, Trent, and Kirk. After the family moved to Prince Albert, Vern decided on a career change and was hired as a Correctional Officer at Saskatchewan Penitentiary. Vern worked at the Sask Penn for 26 years, retiring in 1991. He continued to work on a casual basis for a local security company until fully retiring. Vern loved dancing, playing sports, and playing games, such as cribbage, pinochle, Kaiser, bridge, canasta and any other card game he could find, especially at Christmas time.
He and Shirley travelled and covered North America by car, visiting San Francisco, Anaheim California, Alaska, Florida, the Maritimes and many places in between. They wanted a new adventure, so they moved to Camrose AB in the early 90’s, where Shirley passed away. Vern continued to reside in Camrose until convinced to move back to Prince Albert to be closer to his family. He lived on his own at Caleb Village until his health took a downturn, then the Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern, and finally at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert. He had great staff at both homes and told us often how well he was cared for.
Vern celebrated his 91st birthday on Dec 14 and family was able to be with him and indulge in his requested pizza and cake. He was able to hold his newest great-granddaughter Jemma one last time. Vern passed peacefully on Dec 20, 2024, knowing he was loved and will be truly missed.
