Obituary of Gordon Balon
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Balon on December 25, 2024 at the age of 76 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Gordon was born on December 6, 1948, in Prince Albert to John and Zennie, and is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Ann Chaisson, who was not only his partner in life but also his best friend.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his sons, Adam (Andrea) and Brad (Kate), and his beloved grandchildren: Anna, Ava, Quinton, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his dear sister, Linda McKay, and a wide circle of extended family, friends, and colleagues.
Gordon pursued his academic aspirations at the University of Saskatchewan, earning both a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Bachelor of Law degree. His remarkable legal career spanned 41 years, during which he earned the prestigious King’s Counsel appointment and the Saskatchewan Centennial Award for his contributions to his field and community. He led a successful law firm in Prince Albert, where he was highly regarded by clients and peers alike.
In addition to his professional achievements, Gordon dedicated his time and talents to the community he loved. He served as president of the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club and Rotary Club, as well as president of Kin Enterprises. He also held leadership roles as vice president of both the Prince Albert Group Home Society and Veselka Prince Albert & District Ukrainian Cultural & Heritage Club.
A proud advocate of his Ukrainian heritage, Gordon was deeply connected to the culture and language that shaped him.
Gordon’s life was defined by his devotion to family. He found great joy in bird and big game hunting with his two sons, and treasured the countless hours spent with loved ones at the family cottages at Weyakwin and Emma Lake.
In 1999, Gordon was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Despite this challenge, he faced life with unwavering positivity and resilience, inspiring everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gordon will be remembered as a compassionate and dedicated man whose kindness touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served so passionately.
May Gordon be remembered in our hearts forever.
Gordon’s family wishes to thank Pat Chuey and her team at Good Shepherd for taking such great care of our husband, father, grandfather and brother. Their kindness and professionalism will not be forgotten.
