When the 2nd world war broke out he enlisted in the army, but was never sent out for active duty. In 1946 he married Clara Zunti. At that time his parents built a home in Debden and he took over the farm. He raised livestock; mostly cattle, & cut and baled hay. Over the years he sold many truckloads of baled hay. He also worked for the R.M. cutting grass along the ditches. He raised 3 children on his beloved farm. In the early 70's his herd of cattle was infected with bangs disease, so he had to get rid of all his livestock. After moving to town he worked for the village for a while, but Dad and Mom decided they would like to be free to do some traveling. They traveled to every province in Canada, and every state of the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii. They also took a trip to Europe where they visited relatives and did much site-seeing. Although Dad loved the farm, he really did love to travel also. His last trip was taken just a few years before Mom passed away. After Mom died his last wishes were to sell his house, and move into Debden Heritage Manor as soon as it was built. He was the first resident there where he lived for the last 1 1/2 years. The prayer service was said Tuesday October 26, 2010 and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday October 27, 2010 from the St. Jean Baptiste RC Church in Debden with Rev. Fr. Bernabe Millan Sajonas celebrant. Interment took place in the Debden Cemetery. Jocelyn Leray was the cross bearer, and his grandsons Robert Croteau, Ron Leray, Christopher Pidskalny, Matthew Pidskalny, Garry Campbell and Darren Adams were his pallbearers. Monica Svendson was the organist, accompanied by Louise Marchildon, Gilles Francoeur and the choir for the music.
