Obituary of Mike Shinkaruk

SHYNKARUK: Michael Shynkaruk passes away in Shellbrook October 22, 2010 at the age of 84 years. Mike will be remembered by: His brothers and sisters: John (Violet) Shynkaruk of Shell Lake, SK Isadore (Nora) Shynkaruk of Prince Albert, SK., Annie Papp of Prince Albert, SK., Jean (Brian) Seaborn of Richmond, BC, His sisters in law: Catherine Shynkaruk of Prince Albert, SK., Francis Shinkaruk of Prince Albert, SK., Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends He was predeceased by: His parents William and Mary Shinkaruk; Five brothers ; Edward, Stanley, William, Steve, George and Ted, His brothers in law: Matt Tyshynski and Mike Papp, His sisters in law: Lois Shinkaruk, Gloria Shinkaruk, Tilly Shinkaruk; A nephew Rudy Shynkaruk Mike was born in Wakaw Ask. June 21, 1926. He was the second of eleven children for Mary and William Shynkaruk. He worked at many different jobs. In his early years he worked for a farmer in around Wilkie. He worked north of P.A .and Glaslyn cutting posts and hauling them with his famous red cab truck that said Mike E. Shynkaruk on the doors. He worked for his brother John and the Skarpinski boys around Meadow Lake logging. One of his many talents was as self taught carpenter. He built big projects such as houses and more meticulous projects such as kitchen cupboards. Corral cleaning with his cat was another business that he ran. He cleaned corrals in almost every community around. Mike did some dabbling with grain farming, a few pigs and chickens. He grew a huge garden and loved his cucumbers and tomatoes and beets. In his later years he moved into a seniors unit in Leask, then back to Shell Lake where he lived till his passing. His family was his extended family and friends. He was a man who really didn't care too much for people fussing over him, and lived a very simple life. Some fond memories of Mike are: his famous nick names; Long Legs and Kojak. He made his routine visits to the farm. Birthday cards unsigned and still in plastic wraps for future use. He loved Ukrainian and Farmers sausage. Mike had a dry unusual sense of humor, one that sometimes made you laugh and sometimes shake your head. His funeral service was held October 26, 2010 at the Partner's and Worship Church with Rev. David Jensen officiating. Donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Shellbrook & District Project Fund. E-mail condolences will be forwarded to the family. Beau"Lac" Funeral Home of Spiritwood were entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
