Obituary of George Morrissette
Morrissette-George passed away November 11, 2010 at the age of 69 years in Saskatoon, Sask. George was born in 1941 to Nancy Arcand and Jeremie Morrissette. The family had migrated north after the North West Rebellion and settled in the Park Valley area. Born seventh in line from a family of 14 children, George lived with his parents and never married or had children. He was the great grandson on Chief Mistawasis, who was one of the first signatories of Treaty Six. The family having survived many perils, was always told to remain silent on their history, from fear of being severely reprimanded by the government. George didn't take Treaty, but lived the simple life of a religious Metis man. He was humble, loveable and wanted nothing but good for everyone. He tried to understand those around him and tried to help whenever he could, despite his improvised surroundings. He tried to walk straight, loving God, but like most men, stumbled sometimes. George leaves to mourn his brothers & sisters Bernadette Barrone of Debden, SK; Alcide Morrissette (Louise) of Beardy's FN; Cecile Neilson of Abbotsford, BC; Roseanne Munroe of Grand Prairie, AB; Paul Morrissette of Saskatoon, SK; Josephine Sprowl (Les) of Edmonton, AB; Philipe Morrissette of Prince Albert, SK; Leo Morrissette of Erinferry, SK; Yvonne Richer of Saskatoon, SK and Blanche Morrissette of Saskatoon, SK, Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jeremie & Nancy (Arcand) Morrissette. The Prayer Service was held Monday, November 15th, 2010 at 7:00 pm from St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Debden, Saskatchewan. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, November 16th, 2010 at 10:30 am from St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Bernabe Millan Sajonas as celebrant. The organist was Diane Duret. The eulogy was given by Josephine Sprowl & Yvonne Richer. The honorary pallbearers were Alcide, Paul, Philipe & Leo Morrissette; George & Leo Arcand. The active pallbearers were Marlon Morrissette-Moose, Daniel Richer, Chris Morrissette, Curtis Barrone, Paul Morrissette-Moose and Brian Arcand. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of George may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. George was laid to rest in the Debden cemetery not far from his loving parents. May we meet again to laugh and have tea again in the house of our Lord.
