Perry leaves to mourn, his children, Erica Rae, Michael Perry Adam, Tessa Marie; his companion Regan Bittner and her children Jordan, Chase, and the late Kayla Dawn; his parents, Reynold and Lucy Sommerfeld; his sisters, Janet (Jamie) Scholz, Rhonda Fitch; his nieces, Kelsey Fitch, Regan Mizuno, Rachel (Neil) Devchand and their children Blake and Brendan; his nephew, Brock Fitch; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Perry was predeceased by his grandparents, Karl and Emilie Schmalz, Adam and Olga Sommerfeld. Perry was born in Prince Albert, Sask. on August 7, 1961 and lived on the farm at Shellbrook. Perry was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and a good friend and took the greatest pride in his children and everything they did. Perry always encouraged and supported Erica, Michael and Tessa in their activities. They inherited their Dad's love of nature, sports and music. Perry spent his life outdoors, first in his farming career with his parents and also during his time pipelining in Alberta. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time hiking in the forest near his home and working on his yard. Perry had a quick wit, a ready smile, a terrific sense of humor and he always opened his home to everyone with friendly hospitality. Perry was a wonderful, kind person and will be deeply missed and loved forever. Perry's funeral service was held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Shellbrook on Thursday November 25th at 11:00 am with Rev. Doug Schmirler and Rev. Chris Dean as officiants. The eulogy was given by Regan Mizuno. The pianist was Janet Scholz, and special music "All His Children" was sung by Regan Mizuno, Rachel Devchand and Kelsey Fitch. During the service Perry's two favorite hymns, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Amazing Grace" were sung by the congregation. The pallbearers were Barry Gouldhawke, Roger Provencher, Andrew Ernst, Kerry Peterson, Terry Kwasnica and Bill Topping. Memorial donations may be made to the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Project, or the Saskatoon Cancer Centre. Perry was laid to rest at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Brightholme.
