Obituary of Nora Elizabeth Gaboury
GABOURY - Mrs. Nora Elizabeth 1931 - 2010 It is with sadness that the family of Mrs. Nora Elizabeth Gaboury announce her passing on December 10, 2010 at the age of 79 years. Nora was born on July 10, 1931 in Vermillion, Alberta. Nora and her seven brothers and sisters were raised on the farm near Vermillion and attended the Allandale Country School located just a few miles from the homestead. After completing her education, she moved to Edmonton where she stayed with her two older sisters and found work. It was there that she met Jules Kormos. They eventually married and then moved to Saskatoon for employment opportunities. After the birth of their first son, they returned to Edmonton again for employment purposes. Soon after, Jules was offered a partnership in his brother's store in Holbein, and the family relocated there. While operating the store in Holbein, the other four boys were born. Due to a fire, the store and house tragically burned to the ground. Both store and house were re-built and moved about a half mile south upon the construction of the "new" highway. In 1966, Nora lost Jules to an illness and later moved to Shellbrook with her five children. In 1968 she met Phillip Gaboury and they married on July 5, 1969 and moved to the farm in Cookson. From there, they moved to an acreage north of Shellbrook and later into Shellbrook as the older children grew and left home. At times Nora appeared to have a "gruff" exterior, but inside that exterior beat a huge heart of gold. No one ever went hungry or slept out in the cold when Nora was around. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. She will be sadly missed by all. Nora is survived by her husband Phillip Gaboury of Shellbrook; her children Daryl (Carenn) Kormos of Whitehorse, YT; Danny (Leona) Kormos of Wainwright, AB; Kelly Kormos of Teslin, YT; Kerry (Crystal) Kormos of Saskatoon, SK; Dale (Kitty) Kormos of Spruce Home, SK; her grandchildren Jeff, Leanne, Brian, Colleen, Tanya, Lisa, Carson, Jason, Holly, Krista, Nathan, Danielle, Jared, Zakariah, Kristopher, Jessica, Kendell, Tyler; and her great grandchildren Alexander, Xander, Lilija; a brother Maurice Phillips of Wainwright, AB; a sister Kay O'Neill of Victoria, B.C. Nora was predeceased by her first husband Jules Kormos; her brothers and sisters Jim Phillips, May Chevalier, Rita Gosselin, Edwin Phillips, Gordon Phillips, and Bernard Phillips. The Mass of Christian Burial for Nora took place on December 16, 2010 at the St. Agatha's Roman Catholic Church in Shellbrook. Father Anthony Pangan was the celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Reithaug; Tony Boxall; and Walter Scott. Active pallbearers were Nora's boys, Daryl Kormos, Danny Kormos, Kerry Kormos, Kelly Kormos, Dale Kormos, and Jeff Kormos. Interment took place in the Deer Ridge Cemetery following the luncheon. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Nora to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (279 3rd Ave. North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8).
