The urnbearer was her grandson Riley Lavoie Rose came dancing and singing into this world on Aug 17, 1943 to proud parents Omar and Bernadette Compagna. She grew up and attended school in Leoville. One of her very dear friends was Irene Halko. They spent a lot of time together there are even pictures of them dressed in identical dresses that were sewed by Irene's mother. I am sure no one new they would later become sister in laws. They always had a lot of fun together. Rose's family was very musical and enjoyed singing and dancing. Rose loved to go out to dances and movies and when her parents would tell her no she would crawl up to the roof of their home and sing the song," I'm no bodies child," at the top of her lungs. Angele and Rose did a lot of singing together at amateur hours and weddings. Everyone enjoyed those rich deep voices. They were selected for Spot Light on Talent many years ago. Rose met and married Gerry Lavoie in June of 1961. Moving to her new home took a lot of getting used to and she soon figured out she was not cut out to be a farm girl. Taking meals to the field for the men was a challenge for her as her sense of direction was terrible and would always find her somewhere else. Only to find dad looking for her once again. They raised four children on the family farm: Bernadette, Lorie-Ann, Edward and Donny. They had many hardships losing their home and everything in it to fire three times through out their life. They also had many happy times with family and neighbors, getting together to sing and visit in each others homes as often as possible. Lorraine Lavoie and Rose did a lot of things together, even baking bread. One time after mixing a batch of 18 loaves, Rose misplaced her wedding rings. She said "I put them in a cup;" it turned out the cup got used for measuring. So the rings got mixed into the bread and got baked. They had to slice 18 loaves of bread before finding all three rings. But they were found good as new. Rose had numerous jobs: from cooking, selling shoes, Tupperware and clothes. They moved to Fort McMurray in 1991 for a short time but found that the farm was where they needed to be. In the early 80's they decided to move to Valleyview and try their hand at farming there but again realized that the farm at Laventure was their home. Rose lost her husband in 1991 and found it hard to remain on the farm with out him. She decided to move back to Valleyview. She had numerous jobs cooking and waitressing there as well as running a health food store. She left many good friends behind and will be missed. Rose moved back to Spiritwood in 2001 to be closer to her family where she lived the remainder of her years. She spent a lot of time coffeeing with Anita and Georgette as well as traveling to Battleford to spend time with Angele. So we nick named her road runner, it was always a big joke. Playing cards was one of Rose and Gerry's favorite pass times and it was especially gratifying for her if she could beat Gerry. And we are sure they are back to their competitions in heaven with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rose may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan
