Obituary of Gwendolyn "Gwen" Helen Sanders

Sanders: It is with sadness we announce the passing of Gwendolyn Helen Sanders of Shell Lake. Better known as Gwen, she was born January 3, 1928 in Regina, Sask. to Robert and Florence Hamill. After having lived in Dilke for a few years, the family homesteaded North of Shell Lake. As a young girl, she worked on the farm, babysat, and did household chores for anyone who needed help. In 1946, she married Herbert Sanders. They farmed south of Shell Lake and raised their two boys. Gwen was a hard worker. She could pick rocks, fence, milk cows, raise pigs, chickens, turkeys, plant a garden, look after the house and make a meal with enough to feed anyone who was there at meal time. Family was very important to her. She loved her grandkids and referred to them as the "spice of life". She found the time to play with them, making forts out of tarps and other crafts. She loved to bake. Her pies and cinnamon buns were the best. She loved to have people over and enjoyed having a cup of tea with them. Gwen will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family; her sons Bob (Lynn), Andy (Marlene), her grandchildren Cheryl, Todd (Kendra), Trina (Rob), Trevor as well as her great grandchildren Dalton, Theoron, Regan and Taylor, her nieces, nephew and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Herbert, her brothers Pat, Jim (Iona), Mickey and Alfie, a sister Molly and her parents Robert and Florence Hamill. Gwen's life was celebrated Monday February 28, 2011 from the Partners and Worship Church with Delores Beaulac officiating. Phil Marion was the soloist and Bernie Hotvedt was the urn bearer. Donations in memory of Gwen may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the C.N.I.B. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Beau"Lac" Funeral Home in Spiritwood. Email condolences will be forwarded to the family. www.beaulacfuneralhome.com
