Obituary of Charlotte Schmalz

SCHMALZ- Mrs. Charlotte Schmalz, age 90, late of Shellbrook, passed away peacefully in Whispering Pine Place in Canwood on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Charlotte was born as Leokadia Freund on September 9, 1920 in the Brightholme district to Julius and Natalie Freund. Although Charlotte developed junior rheumatoid arthritis at a young age, she had an incredibly strong will and was determined to lead a full life in spite of her condition. In 1940 she married Arthur Schmalz, and they raised four children, as well as two foster children, Walter and Pauline. Charlotte was a fabulous cook, working with resources from the farm and garden. She always enjoyed the company of her neighbors, on the farm, and later with the card players at the Senior's Hall. The church was always a source of strength and very important to Charlotte. She was a member of the LCW, and was involved in church and community choirs. Thank you to the many friends and relatives for their kindness. Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Rita (Edwin) Kneller of Wetaskiwin AB, Les (Anne) Schmalz of Calgary AB, Allen Schmalz of Abbotsford BC, Arlene Lazecki of Saskatoon; foster child Pauline (George) McGuey of Calgary; grandchildren Bryan (Carrol) Kneller of Canmore AB, David Kneller of Wetaskiwin AB, Joanne (Greg) Kneller-Spence of Cambridge MN, Kevin (Colleen) Schmalz of Calgary, Andrea (Scott) Woronuik of North Vancouver, Ryan (Jill) Schmalz of Sun Peaks BC, Melanie Schmalz of Ottawa, Shannon McGuey of Calgary, Sheldon McGuey of Calgary; great grandchildren Kyleigh, Austin, Brittany, Bethany, Eden, Keil, Reid, Ashley, Victoria, Jocelyn, Emma; great great grandson Spencer Kneller; son-in-law Larry Lazecki of Saskatoon; sisters, Gertie Hoehne of Calgary; brother Otto (Martha) Friend of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law Margaret Friend of Saskatoon, Esther Schmalz of Shellbrook, Louise Schmalz of Shellbrook; numerous nieces and nephews.
