Obituary of Barry George Savage
SAVAGE, Barry (December, 12, 1943 - April 22, 2011) It is with great sadness that the family of Barry George Savage announces his passing at the age of 67 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Barry will dearly missed by his loving wife Sylvia (nee Niwranski), his children Kerri (Tuomas Aaltonen) and Kyle, both of Calgary, and his two granddaughters, Avery and Kendall, who were the apple of his eye. Barry is also survived by his brother Jack (Joyce) Savage of Newmarket, ON; and sisters Anita Giroux of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK; Jeannette Taylor of Kamloops, BC; Joyce (Dan) Costea of Calgary, AB; and Carol (Eduardo Ubilla-Peters) Savage of Madrid, Spain. Barry was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to English immigrants, Archibald and Dorothy Savage, the fifth of six children. His parents, brothers-in-law, Bill Taylor, Francis Giroux and Peter Vermette predeceased him. Barry joined SaskPower Corporation as a lineman in 1961 and dedicated 34 years to the Corporation before his retirement in 1995. Barry met Sylvia in Nipawin, Saskatchewan and they were married in 1965. His job took him and his family to various towns across the province including Weyburn, Swift Current, Emma Lake, Prince Albert and Blaine Lake and called Shellbrook home since 1983. Barry was happiest when all his children and grandchildren were with him, sharing his enjoyment of camping and boating at many lakes in central Saskatchewan including Nesslin and Candle. His intelligence and unique sense of humour characterized the many discussions he had with family and friends. He was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer and there wasn't a project he wouldn't take on and master with his skill and attention to detail. He also enjoyed farming - as long as it wasn't his farm! A celebration of Barry's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barry's name directly to the Shellbrook and District Health Services Project Inc. (c/o Sylvia Savage, Box 183, Shellbrook, SK S0J 2E0). Barry's wife and children extend their gratitude to Dr. James of the RUH ICU and his colleagues for their very compassionate and professional care for both Barry and his family during this difficult time.
