Obituary of Jacobena (Bena) Marie Paul

PAUL - Mrs.Jacobena nee:(Bischler) 1918-2011 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jacobena Marie Paul 'Bena' announce her passing on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the age of 92 years. Bena was born on November 12, 1918 in the Wandsworth District, east of Marcelin to Edward Bischler and Emma "Lenz" Bischler. Bena grew up on the family farm with 10 siblings, which was not easy in the 1930's. With raising a family of this size Bena helped her parents and siblings with the garden, hunting, fishing and baking bread. Bena's mother Emma died very young, which left the older girls to proceed to take their mother's role in the home. Bena attended Chellwood School from grade 1 to 8. Memories of her childhood include large neighborhood gatherings at the home place on Sundays playing ball and enjoying homemade ice cream and churned butter on homemade bread. In 1941 Bena met her life partner Robert Paul, and on October 30, 1944 they were married. They lived on the Carlton family farm. They both worked hard on the farm living in a small home on the Robert and Mathurine Paul farm site. Later in the winters Bob and Bena would move into the larger family home on the farm. Bena was the best farm helper to Bob, assisting in the garden, hauling grain, bringing meals & lunches out to the field as well as raising beef, pork and chicken. Bena also helped with the grain cleaning operation they ran and took care of the office/bookkeeping sector. Robert and Bena's first child Adeline arrived on October 2, 1946 and Raymond followed shortly after on November 11, 1948. The Paul family moved to Wandsworth and farmed the North side of the river and later south of Blaine Lake. They resided on the Blaine Lake Farm until Bob's passing in October of 2004. Bena had many hobbies to keep her busy over the years from gardening, baking, spinning wool, and knitting to card playing and visiting with friends and neighbors. Bena was known to be generous to a fault in sharing her garden potatoes, cucumbers, onions, etc with family and neighbors who were less fortunate with their gardens each year. Church was also a very important part of her life through the years. After Bob's passing Bena traveled to visit and stay with her family and soon after returned to the Blaine Lake area and moved to Dianna's Personal Care Home for almost two years. There after Bena spent two months in the Evergreen Home in Leoville, followed by her transfer to her permanent stay in Leask in March of 2007 till her passing. The warm cozy kitchens of Bena's homes were always filled with the aroma of her bread and her caring personality, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
