Obituary of Dorothy Elizabeth Earby

EARBY - Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth 1911 - 2011 Mrs. Dorothy Earby late of Shellbrook passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the age of 99 years. Dorothy was born to Sidney and Bessie Strike on September 20, 1911. Dorothy grew up in Three Creeks with an older sister Alice Maud and a younger brother Walter John. Dorothy attended Three Creeks School obtaining her grade eight. In 1927 at the age of 16 Dorothy met Clifford Earby, and five years later they were to marry in Shellbrook on Dec. 20, 1932. On Oct. 6, 1933 Dorothy gave birth to a baby girl named Edith, and then October 20, 1939 a baby boy named Edwin joined their family. Her son Edwin as a baby had caught a virus when he was born, which resulted in him having to stay for several months in a Saskatoon Hospital. It was only two years later when Dorothy had been diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and with time and a good doctor she regained her health. As Dorothy regained her health she enjoyed getting back into planting her gardens, and flowers, raising her own chickens, turkeys, milking cows and helping around the farm. In the fall she helped with the stooking as well as pitching hay. Dorothy was also an active member of the community and loved visiting with others in her spare time. Her favorite pass times were embroidery, knitting mitts, gloves & sweaters, dancing, playing cards, traveling, and berry picking. In the winters Dorothy could be found in the curling rinks, where she loved to curl. In the summers going to the lake to watch the grandkids swim, ski and fish was time well spent. Sadly on October 28, 1983 Dorothy's loving husband Clifford passed away. Dorothy spent 64 years on the farm, and in 1999 she moved into Shellbrook to the Heritage Place until 2005 when she moved to Parkland Terrace. Dorothy lived a much fulfilled life doing the things that she loved with the people she cared about most. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Edith (James) Henry and their children, Harley (Linda) Henry and their children Darren (Lisa), Michael (Nicole) and Blaine (Lee); Beverly (Richard) Roberts and their children, Jennifer (Travis) Friedley, Jason (Erin) Roberts, Michelle (Todd) Stiel; Wendy (Jim) Watt and their children, Marcus & Amanda; Wayne (Lynne) Henry and their children, Colton, Justin, Branden and Courtney; Kevin (Glenda) Henry and their children, Alex, Hailey, Dane & Jaxen. Her son Edwin Earby and his son John Earby; Her great great grandchildren, Tristen, Gavin, Lilli-Ann, Tavis, Harlen, Myla, and Carter. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Clifford Earby; her parents Sidney & Bessie Strike; her sister Maud Strike; and her brother Walter Strike. The Funeral Service for Dorothy was held on August 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Shellbrook with Rev. Stephen Harnish as officiant.
