Melvin was born August 25, 1933 at the family farm near Deer Ridge District. He later attended National Park School, and took a course in mechanics in Edmonton, AB. In 1956 Melvin married the love of his life, Yvonne Fisher, they then moved to Prince Albert where Melvin worked as a mechanic for Whitter Motors, Parkview Service and other jobs. In 1964 the family moved to the farm in Mayview District, where they raised their family. He spent many years working at various jobs while trying to farm. Melvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending much time up north on the lakes. In recent years he enjoyed the summers at Jan Lake, telling stories and chasing "The Big One" that got away. Melvin was known to everyone as, "Mr. Fix It!" it didn't matter where he was in a parking lot, on the road, on the lake or in his shop at home if it needed fixing, he could do it. Melvin will be dearly missed by all who knew him. There will be a Celebration of Life for Melvin on Friday, September 2, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. To 3:00 p.m. in the Deer Ridge Hall, everyone is welcome to come and join the family for a time of fellowship and lunch.
