Obituary of Leslie McQuhae
Leslie was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He was the second oldest, of six children, born on the second day of the second month of the year 1920. Leslie attended school at Westwood and completed his grade 8. By 1935 his dad's sclerosis had taken its tole so Leslie had to take over the faming at the age of 15. He cleared land and provided for the family the best he could. In 1939-40 Les went out to BC to do some logging and spring tree planting. In 1941 he was conscripted into the army and went to Regina for training. He was released the next year for compassionate reasons. Les met his bride Pearl Simonar by going to dances that the Simonar Orchestra played at. On November 22 of 1943 Les married Pearl. Les and Pearl were married for 60 years and 4 months. Leslie and Pearl farmed the homestead and made many improvements on it during their time there. They raised three children, Rosanne, Garry and Janet. Farm life was hard and Les worked long and hard along with the rest of the family to make a living, they raised many cows, chickens and pigs on their farm. In 1980 Les and Pearl made their home in Spiritwood. Now this was the first home that had running water. Of course the garden in town wasn't big enough so the plants that didn't need tending all the time were planted at the old farm. Les loved the outdoors and enjoyed trapping, hunting and as a youngster he learned to shoot a gun with great accuracy, fishing, loved to play horseshoes and also was an avid curler. Les's health failed and he became unable to care for himself spending the last four and a half years in the care facilities in Rabbit Lake and Spiritwood. Les will be fondly remembered by all his family and many friends in the community.
