Obituary of Richard Hotvedt

Richard was greatly loved and respected by his family, friends and neighbors. He touched many lives and will be fondly remembered. Born April 1, 1922, Harold grew up on his parent's farm in the Camp Lake District. Joining the Canadian Army at the age of 17, Harold served his country in Churchhill, Shilo, Ottowa, Korea, Japan, United Kingdom and North Western Europe as well as many other places, within the Canadian Army, he served with the Canadian Provost Corps Military Police and United Nations Forces as well. He received the Canadian Decoration for his long service and good conduct. Retiring from the Army in 1965, he and his family moved back to his father's homestead, and farmed for the next few years until they sold all but 40 acres overlooking the lake, on which they built their new house. Richard, affectionately known as "Dick" married his love, Irene Gertrude Boyer on April 8, 1948. During the 62 years of marriage they raised three children; Sandra, Rhonda and Ivel, and fostered many more. Dick enjoyed music, playing the mandolin and violin. Jamming with Irene who played harmonica or organ and his son Ivel playing the guitar and singing made for special times. Dick liked to hunt, fish, and trek the outdoors. He worked hard and loved working with his hands. Carpentry and wood working were his specialty, crafting treasures for his wife and children and their children. In 2001, Dick and Irene moved to Lloydminster after he suffered a stroke that limited his mobility. They resided in their home until this spring when they moved into an assisted living home. Surrounded with the love of his family Dick passed away on November 3, 2011. Left to cherish Dick's memory are: His loving wife of 63 years, Irene; their children: Sandra (Mark) Zimmer, Rhonda Fusick, Ivel (Brenda) Hotvedt and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. His sisters: Blanche Pott, Christine Hotvedt and Helga Groves, his bothers: Reginald and Ernie and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by: his parents, Helge and Nora,his brothers, Henry, Horace, Elmer and Helge, his sisters, Helena, Geraldine and Lorna, his son-in-law, Steve Fusick,h is grandson, Jason Hotvedt, and his great grandson Jesse Zimmer. The funeral service for the late Mr. Hotvedt was held on Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Shell Lake Lion's Hall, Shell Lake, SK Memorial Donations may be made to the Shell Lake Cemetery Fund or the choice of the donor.
