Obituary of Elsie Olson
OLSON – Mrs.Elsie
1928 – 2012
Mrs. Elsie Margot Olson, late of Canwood, passed away peacefully at Whispering Pine Place on November 30, 2012 at the age of 84 years. Elsie was born to Alfreda & Reynold Anderson on April 30, 1928 at home in Silent Call. She was the only girl in the family of five. While attending school at Silent Call, Elsie enjoyed playing ball. Some of her teammates became her life-long friends. After school, Elsie went to work in a sanatorium in B.C.
Elsie married Bertle Olson on April 29, 1954. They began their life together on the farm less than two miles from Elsie’s home. Elsie lived a farm life milking cows, selling cream for grocery money and raised chickens for eggs and meat. She was an avid gardener, freezing and canning all types of veggies and fruit, especially raspberries. Elsie helped with the baling, driving the tractor and taking her turn stooking the bales.
Elsie and Bertle became parents in February of 1955, when their daughter Gail was born. Two years later, the twins Gary and Robert were born. Elsie past her time with her hobbies of sewing and crocheting. She made many beautiful doilies.
Elsie’s grandchildren always put a big smile on her when they came to visit her, and she loved doting on all her grandchildren. Elsie and Bertle left the farm in the late 90’s and moved into the seniors housing in Canwood. They made new friends and caught up with the old ones too. They enjoyed visiting and playing cards. Elsie found it difficult when Bertle became ill and moved into Whispering Pine Place in 2005. The staff became her second family, treating her very well and taking care of all of her needs. She enjoyed the outings to the lake, the different restaurants in the area; and the activities the staff organized. She especially liked the music.
Elsie was a caring, loving and gracious woman. She was an incredible Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and a wonderful friend to many. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, kind smile and her humble ways.
Elsie is survived by her sons Gary (Wendy) Olson of Debden; Robert (Janice) Olson of Debden; her grandchildren Brittani Olson (Nolan Fox) of Saskatoon; Stacey Olson of Saskatoon; Connie (Ken) Hulowski of Prince Albert and their children Brooke, Braden, Tayah and Jaxson; Robert (Jamie) Olson of Martensville and their children Joshua and Alexa; her brother Raymond (Joyce) Nelson of Prince Albert; her sisters in-law Yvonne (David) Slater of Thousand Palms, CA and Ida Redekopp of Saskatoon; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
