Obituary of Phillip Faine Melby

1946 – 2013
Mr. Phillip Faine Melby, age 67 of Shellbook, SK passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Faine was born on June 11, 1946 in Turtleford, Saskatchewan, the youngest child to Wallen and Rita (nee Cortus) Melby. He took his schooling in Turtleford and Glaslyn, SK, and actively worked on the family farm. Faine had a love for nature and farming. In 1969 he met and married Marjorie Bleich, moved for Prince Albert for a short time before buying land and settling northeast of Shellbrook where he started a dairy, beef and grain farm. Faine loved spending time with his family, in particular his grand-daughters. His interests were baseball, hockey (Go Raiders!!), chuck wagon races, fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time amongst his cattle and the land. Over the years, he was an active member of the Dairy Producers Association and the Prince Albert Exhibition Association. Faine is survived by his family: his three daughters, Carmin Melby (partner, Trevor Campbell and sons Braden and Nicholas) of Redcliff, AB; Karen (David) Grenier and their 4 daughters Aimee, Madeline, Brienne and Colette of Marcelin, SK; Coreen Melby and husband Craig Roberts of Saskatoon, SK; one sister, Verna Steen of Airdie, AB as well as two nephews and one niece. Faine was predeceased by his father Wallen Melby of Livelong,SK and mother Rita Melby of Prince Albert,SK; the mother of his daughters, Marjorie Melby of Prince Albert, SK.; brother-in-law, Robert Nerland of Moose Jaw, SK; his nephew, Alfen Nerland of British Columbia. Phillip was much loved, and going to be sorely missed but not forgotten by his family.
A Come and go Tea will be held in Shellbrook for Phillip on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. from the St. Agatha’s RC Church Hall in Shellbrook, SK. There will be a family graveside service to follow at a later date in Livelong, Saskatchewan. In lieu of tributes, donations may be made in memory of Phillip to the Parkland Integrated Health Centre.
