Obituary of Bernice Marie Turgeon

Bernice Marie Turgeon (nee Regnier), was born on December 5th, 1923 in St. Louis, Saskatchewan, the second oldest of ten children. She spent her childhood playing baseball, helping on the farm and caring for her siblings. At 19 years old she graduated from Teacher’s College and came to teach in the Witchekan District. She spent her teaching career in this area, finishing at the Spiritwood High School teaching French and Math. Including her years of substitute teaching, Bernice’s teaching career totalled approximately 35 years. Bernice married Ralph Turgeon in 1944. They farmed the Turgeon family farm northeast of Spiritwood and lovingly raised four boys. Their family attended church regularly and Bernice played organ during mass in her younger years. Bernice and Ralph moved to the town of Spiritwood in the fall of 1975. Bernice was the center of her large family, was a special Grandma to 13 grandchildren and a special Memere to 23 great grandchildren. She is fondly remembered baking or cooking in her kitchen or working in her bountiful garden. Opening her house to her family at lunch time saved many a grandchild from a boring school lunch and gave her adult family members a chance to get away from work and enjoy her company. Bernice especially enjoyed playing bingo, watching curling, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and visiting with her many friends and relatives. Throughout her life, she did a great deal of sewing and blessed her great grandchildren with handmade blankets and afghans. Bernice loved the large holiday gatherings with her family, playing cards and board games late into the night. Her family and her Catholic faith were both immensely important to her. Bernice touched many lives and blessed many hearts. Heaven welcomed her with open arms and she is rejoicing and at peace. Bernice is lovingly remembered by: Her children and grandchildren: Rene (Sally) and their family: Brad Turgeon and his children, Brooke, Brynly and Grayson; Jennifer (Jason) Trach and children, Kolby, Tavis and Amberly; Trina (Devyn) Bell and their children, Ebyn and Berkly; Ryan (Brandie) Turgeon and their children, Drey and Meaya; Hubert (Valerie) and their family: Kristin (Rhonda) and their children, Eden and Caleb; Jodie (Cory) Schlaut and their children, Kealie, Cabrey and Ty; Rodney Turgeon; Don (Damianne) and their family: Tamara (Dave) Molberg and their children, Emily, Samantha and Addison; Tyson Turgeon; Terra Turgeon (Elliot Kajner) and their children, Jada, Lexi and Cruze; Todd Turgeon; Tera (Tyler) Fisher and their children, Linken and Logan; Greg (Cheryl) and their family: Meagan (Tyson) Walter; Michelle Turgeon Her siblings: Della Lemauviel, Marie Patchin, Marcien (Nora) Regnier, Delmas (Dot) Regnier, Her sisters-in-law, Cecile Doucette and Leah Regnier.
