Obituary of Joe Frank Loch
It is with great sadness yet peace in our hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Joe Loch. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, dad passed away with his family by his side on Friday, September 22, 2017.
Joseph Frank Loch was born March 7, 1938 in Henribourg, SK to Szymon and Marya (Korzcak) Loch. He was the youngest of five children. His early years brought him to various parts of Manitoba, B.C. and Saskatchewan eventually settling in Prince Albert. Dad met a local girl, Ione Selander, at a dance and a lifelong romance began. Dad and mom celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past August. Their marriage was blessed with four children, three daughters and a son.
A carpenter, a business man, an educator, an avid sportsman – most notably baseball, hockey, golf and curling, volunteer with PA Golf and Curling club and member of the Knights of Columbus; dad impacted all who had the good fortune of working or volunteering alongside him. Anyone who met him knew what a kind and generous gentleman he was. Most importantly was his devotion to his wife and family along with his faithfulness to the Church. He was always present with his wisdom or tool kit and mostly patience to guide us through life’s obstacles. Dad valued his family time and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. His gentle ways made each of us feel extra special.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Ione, children and grandchildren: Karen (Richard Voellmecke), Corinne (Sheldon Ryma), Shelley (Bob Lowes) and Trent (Tami Gostola); and grandchildren Melissa, Katie, Mandy (Jason), Leslie (Mathieu), Quenton, Ryan, Alycia, Mikayla and Robbie and great-grandchildren William, Airionna, Ava and Reese; sisters Jenny Matkowski and Anne Matkowski; brother in-law Wayne (Carol) Selander and sister in-law Cecilia Loch. He was predeceased by his parents Szymon and Marya Loch, sister Sophie (Al) Penteliuk, brother John Loch, brother in-laws Mel Matkowski, Stan Matkowski and sister in-law Marci (Bob) MacDonald. A special mention of gratitude to Dr. Lombard , Dr. Grobler and the entire homecare staff for their care and compassion. In lieu of other tributes, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Joseph Loch may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 - 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
