I would like to express my deepest and most heart-felt condolences on the passing of beloved Grandma Sophie.
I was extremely blessed to have Grandma Sophie in my life. Through the 17 years that I was honoured to know her, I came to regard Grandma Sophie with awe and thorough respect. I felt much attached to her as she was the first person who truly accepted me as part of the family with open arms and heart. She was beautiful inside and out, authentic, honest, showed great integrity in her words and actions, and was sincere not to mention loving, caring and attentive. She was a fighter and a survivor who managed for most of her life to do things herself and not depend on anyone.
She was so keen and perceptive. Oh the wisdom in those sparkly blue eyes, the clear unspoken advice and messages she relayed when we talked, the unparalleled love and devotion she felt for her children, grand-children, great grand-children and their families.
There simply was no better role model that Grandma Sophie.
All that I have learnt through her will be forever ingrained in me and in the life-lessons that I teach to my children. Her delicious Borscht, pork roast and butter-tarts continue too as I follow her “recipes” given to me over the phone (– you know, a little bit of this, a handful of that) and fill my families tummies with good old deliciousness. Grandma Sophie may have moved on to Heaven but she continues to live strongly through all of us.
Although I am extremely sad to see her go and will miss her dearly, I know that she is in a better place now. She is no longer in pain, no longer trapped in a body that was failing, no longer in a situation of dependency, all of which I am certain she despised. Her pain and suffering have ended and she can finally rest after a hard but wonderful life.
Rest well, dear Grandma Sophie and wave to us from that bright star in the sky.
With all my love,
Anik

What a wonderful lady. My mom, Geraldine Wallace went the route with Sophie from the Victoria Union to Shellbrook to Mont St. Joseph's. I loved to take mom to visit Sophie. Sophie will be greatly missed by her family, but she is now free of pain. I will never forget what a beautiful person and friend she was to our family. May she rest in peace. By Linda Huber, daughter of Geraldine Wallace.
